As a careers adviser, you could be asked to take a <a href=\"https:\/\/crbdirect.org.uk\/faqs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">basic<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/crbdirect.org.uk\/enhanced-dbs-checks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">enhanced DBS check<\/a>, depending on the age of the people you work with.<\/p>\n<p>If you work with under 18s, you will need to take an enhanced DBS check, in line with all other roles which involve interactions with children. However, if you will be working with over 18s, you will only need a basic DBS check.<\/p>\n<p>A basic DBS check for a careers adviser working with over 18s requires a search for any unspent <a href=\"https:\/\/crbdirect.org.uk\/criminal-convictions-and-dbs-checks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">criminal convictions<\/a> or conditional cautions.<\/p>\n<p>An enhanced DBS check for a careers adviser working with under 18s will also check for any spent convictions, reprimands, warnings and non-conviction information held by relevant police forces. It could also include a review of the children\u2019s and\/ or the vulnerable adults barred lists.<\/p>\n<p>These checks are necessary to ensure the most vulnerable members of our society remain safe.
