DBS checks are statutory criminal record checks carried out by the Disclosure and Barring Service who are a public body sponsored by the Home Office. These formal searches are necessary to ensure the public, particularly children and vulnerable adults<\/a>, are safeguarded from those who are unsuitable for frontline work.<\/p>\n

Therefore, if you decide to work on any projects or in any roles where children or vulnerable are involved, you should be prepared to be asked to undertake a further DBS check, called an enhanced DBS check<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The different types of DBS checks fitness instructors could be asked to take:<\/p>\n

If you are not working with children or vulnerable adults, you should only be asked to take a DBS basic check. This low level CRB check will search for any unspent criminal convictions or conditional cautions.<\/p>\n

If you never choose to work with children or vulnerable adults during your career as a fitness trainer, a basic DBS check<\/a> for a fitness trainer will be sufficient.<\/p>\n

However, if at any point you decide to get involved in any projects for children or vulnerable adults, take up a role in a school or college or want to deliver classes or training to children or vulnerable adults, you\u2019ll need to take an enhanced DBS check<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The enhanced DBS check will include a search for spent convictions, reprimands, cautions, warnings and non-conviction information held by relevant police forces.<\/p>\n

Anyone who works with children or vulnerable adults is subject to this level of check.<\/p>\n
