The Disclosure and Barring Service are a public body sponsored by the Home Office.<\/p>\n<p>The DBS has a remit to safeguard the public, particularly children and <a href=\"https:\/\/crbdirect.org.uk\/defining-a-vulnerable-adult\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">vulnerable adults<\/a>. The Disclosure and Barring Service implements the measures set out in the 1974 Rehabilitation of Offenders Act to ensure unsuitable candidates are not recruited to frontline roles in the UK.<\/p>\n<p>DBS checks are thorough searches for different types of criminal records, according to the degree of contact you will have with the public, particularly children and vulnerable adults in role.<\/p>\n<p>Grounds keepers in the UK can be subject to basic or standard DBS checks, depending on the where they work.<\/p>\n<p>If you are going to work in a place where you could come into contact with children or vulnerable adults, you will need a<a href=\"https:\/\/crbdirect.org.uk\/dbs-check-faq-videos\/what-does-a-standard-dbs-certificate-show\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> standard DBS check<\/a>. For example, if you will be working on school or college grounds you will need a standard DBS check.<\/p>\n<p>If you will not be working in a location designed for children or vulnerable adults you will need a <a href=\"https:\/\/crbdirect.org.uk\/\">basic DBS check<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>A basic DBS check for a grounds keeper will involve a search for any <a href=\"https:\/\/crbdirect.org.uk\/dbs-check-faq-videos\/what-does-unspent-mean\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">unspent<\/a> criminal convictions or conditional cautions. A standard check will go further and check for spent convictions.
