DBS checks are statutory checks established to keep the public safe from those who are unsuitable for public-facing roles.<\/p>\n

Your work as a mayor will involve lots of engagement with the public so under the terms of the 1974 Rehabilitation of Offenders Act, you will need to undergo a DBS check<\/a> for a mayor.<\/p>\n

A DBS check for a mayor will be a basic check which requires a search for any unspent<\/a> criminal convictions or conditional cautions.<\/p>\n

All other frontline roles in the UK are subject to a DBS check. DBS checks are carried out by the Disclosure and Barring Service on behalf of the Home Office.<\/p>\n

Eligibility to serve as a mayor<\/strong><\/p>\n

A basic DBS check for a mayor is only a first level CRB check<\/a> and will not include spent convictions.<\/p>\n
