There are four <a href=\"https:\/\/crbdirect.org.uk\/levels-of-dbs-check\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">levels of DBS<\/a> checks in operation in the UK, which vary according to the degree of interaction with the public employees engage in on a regular basis.<\/p>\n<p>The four types of DBS checks are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Basic DBS<\/li>\n<li>Standard DBS<\/li>\n<li>Enhanced DBS<\/li>\n<li>Enhanced DBS with barring list<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>With <a href=\"https:\/\/crbdirect.org.uk\/faqs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">basic DBS checks<\/a> necessary for councillors and mayors, this lack of vetting for any Member of Parliament is surprising, particularly as MPs do come into lots of contact with the public. Maybe the anomaly is to do with the fact that MPs are the ones who make the legislation in the first place!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Eligibility for Members of Parliament<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Whatever the reasoning, there is a clause that must be noted. That is if you have been found guilty and sentenced to more than one year in prison and are currently detailed as a result, you will not be able to serve as an MP.<\/p>\n<p>This restriction for DBS checks for any Member of Parliament is set out in the 1974 Rehabilitation of Offenders Act.
