Each type requires a different degree of search depending on the level of engagement with the public you will have in role, particularly children and <a href=\"https:\/\/crbdirect.org.uk\/defining-a-vulnerable-adult\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">vulnerable adults<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The purpose of DBS checks is to keep the public protected from those who may be unsuitable for frontline work.<\/p>\n<p>The four types of DBS checks are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Basic DBS<\/li>\n<li>Standard DBS<\/li>\n<li>Enhanced DBS<\/li>\n<li>Enhanced DBS with barring list<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The 1974 Rehabilitation of Offenders Act details a wide range of public-facing roles which must undergo a DBS check. The act stipulates which type of DBS check is needed for each public-facing role.<\/p>\n<p>A DBS check for a paralegal is a basic DBS check.<\/p>\n<p>This is a low level search that will cover any unspent criminal convictions or conditional cautions.
