All healthcare professionals and other frontline workers must take a DBS check. These checks are administered by the Disclosure and Barring Service on behalf of the Home Office.<\/p>\n<p>DBS checks are used to ensure the public, particularly children and <a href=\"https:\/\/crbdirect.org.uk\/defining-a-vulnerable-adult\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">vulnerable adults<\/a>, are protected from those who are unsuitable for frontline roles.<\/p>\n<p>A DBS check for a podiatrist is an <a href=\"https:\/\/crbdirect.org.uk\/levels-of-dbs-check\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">enhanced DBS check with barred lists<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What is an enhanced DBS check?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This type of DBS check is the most comprehensive DBS check available and will include a search for any <a href=\"https:\/\/crbdirect.org.uk\/dbs-check-faq-videos\/what-does-unspent-mean\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">unspent<\/a> or spent convictions, cautions, reprimands or warnings.<\/p>\n<p>The DBS will also check if there is any further non-conviction information in existence with relevant police forces or entries on the children\u2019s and vulnerable adults <a href=\"https:\/\/crbdirect.org.uk\/dbs-check-faq-videos\/what-is-a-barred-list\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">barred lists<\/a>.<br \/>\nThe degree of engagement podiatrists have with the public makes this level of CRB check necessary.
