They are used by employers to ensure staff recruited are suitable for frontline work with the public.<\/p>\n<p>A basic DBS check for a shop assistant will require a search for any unspent <a href=\"https:\/\/crbdirect.org.uk\/criminal-convictions-and-dbs-checks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">criminal convictions<\/a> and conditional cautions. The results of this search will be displayed on a DBS certificate which must be shown to your employer to complete the application process.<\/p>\n<p>If no information is found during the search by the DBS, your DBS certificate will be blank. If any criminal convictions or conditional cautions are uncovered they will be detailed on your DBS certificate.<\/p>\n<p>The DBS can only search for the information contained in your DBS check category. For a basic DBS for a shop assistant this can only be criminal convictions and conditional cautions.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/crbdirect.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">DBS checks<\/a> are a legal requirement for frontline jobs under the terms of the 1974 Rehabilitation of Offenders Act.
